Why we built two simple wellness features instead of a complicated one — and how guests actually use them.
Most wellness retreats sell complexity: programmes, schedules, instructors, branded experiences. We went the other way. Casa do Sol offers two things — a private 11-metre pool, and an outdoor cedar wood-fired sauna. That is the entire wellness offer, and it turns out to be enough.
The pool. Four metres by eleven, filtered hourly. Exclusively yours during your stay. There is no reception, no towels logged at a desk, no other guests to share lanes with. It is the kind of pool you swim laps in at sunrise and float in with a glass of wine at sunset.
The sauna. A cedar wood-fired cabin a few steps from the pool. Firewood is included; we'll show you how to start it. The Nordic ritual — hot, cool plunge in the pool, rest, repeat — works particularly well on cold winter evenings, when the sauna becomes a small ceremony around which the rest of the day organises itself.
We don't run yoga classes or scheduled wellness programmes. An in-villa massage can be arranged by prior arrangement (we work with a local therapist). But the most common feedback we get is that the simplicity is the point: nothing to book, nothing to opt into, just two well-built rooms that do what they are supposed to do.
