Starlink high-speed satellite Wi-Fi (200–300 Mbps), three private workspaces and a setting quiet enough to hear the river — 50 minutes from Porto. Built for remote workers, founders and small leadership teams.
Real Wi-Fi, real quiet, real Portugal. Casa do Sol runs on Starlink — typically 200–300 Mbps down, 20–40 Mbps up, sub-50 ms latency — meaning crisp video calls, fast deploys and zero buffering even when four people in the house are on a Zoom. A small UPS backs the router so a five-second power flicker does not drop your meeting.
The villa has three deliberately distinct workspaces. The library nook on the upper floor is the quiet zone for deep work — a single oak desk, a Herman Miller-style chair, a window over the Marão range. The long oak kitchen table seats four laptops comfortably for a co-working session. The covered south-facing terrace — wired with EU sockets and shaded by chestnut trees — is where afternoon calls happen between July and September. EU sockets are standard throughout, and we provide four USB-C wall adapters and a multi-region power strip on request.
The location is intentionally remote without being inconvenient. Porto international airport (OPO) is fifty minutes away on the A4 — direct flights from London, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Zurich, Madrid, New York (Newark) and São Paulo. Guimarães with its co-working spaces and UNESCO old town is thirty-five minutes. The centre of Celorico de Basto — cafés, restaurants, supermarket, pharmacy — is a five-minute drive. The time zone (UTC+0 winter / UTC+1 summer) overlaps comfortably with the East Coast morning, all of Europe, and the West Coast late afternoon.
For founder retreats and small leadership team off-sites the villa scales naturally to six. Three en-suite bedrooms give everyone their own space, the kitchen handles real catered dinners on request (we book a private chef from the Douro for the first night), and the south terrace turns into a workshop room with whiteboards if asked. We have hosted YC-backed founders, German Mittelstand leadership teams and small EU agency strategy off-sites — discreet check-in, no admin friction, complete privacy.
For longer solo stays the monthly rates kick in at 28+ nights. They include weekly housekeeping, a weekly grocery delivery from a local farm (vegetables, eggs, sourdough, Vinho Verde), and use of the sauna and pool for between-call breaks. Most month-long guests cycle into a rhythm: deep-work morning, swim and sauna over lunch, calls in the afternoon, dinner on the terrace with the laptop firmly closed. Almost everyone leaves a kilo or two lighter, a couple of nights better-slept and more focused than when they arrived.

About your hosts: Casa do Sol is hosted directly by its owners — a Portuguese-German family who restored the property in 2023 and personally welcome every arrival. They live nearby, respond to WhatsApp within the hour, and curate a small but trusted network of local partners: a private chef from the Douro, a sommelier in Celorico de Basto, a yoga teacher from Guimarães and a deep-tissue therapist trained in Porto.
