The simplest, most scenic, and most useful information about getting from the airport to the villa.
Casa do Sol is roughly fifty minutes by car from Porto airport (OPO) and a little less from central Porto. The drive is straightforward, mostly motorway, and one of the more beautiful arrivals in Portugal.
The route. From Porto airport, take the A3 north and then the A7 east. The motorway climbs gradually out of the coastal plain into the Minho hills. Tolls are about €5–7 depending on your exit. The final ten minutes are on smaller country roads — narrow but well paved, with the kind of views that make passengers reach for their phones.
Rental car or private transfer. A car is the easiest way to experience the region. Rentals in Porto are inexpensive and most of our guests arrive with one. If you'd rather not drive, we can arrange a private transfer from the airport for around €90 one-way.
What about public transport? Possible but not recommended for short stays. Combine a train from Porto to Guimarães or Mondim de Basto with a local taxi for the final stretch, or simply book a transfer.
What to stop for on the way. If you have time, pull off in Amarante — a beautiful river town twenty minutes before the villa, with a famous bridge, a baroque church, and a bakery that sells São Gonçalo cakes worth the detour.
