Five outdoor experiences you can reach on foot or with a short drive — for every fitness level.
One of the quiet luxuries of Casa do Sol is that you don't need to plan. Walk out of the gate and within ten minutes you're on a footpath; drive twenty and you're at a river beach. Here are five routes worth knowing.
1. The village loop (1h, easy). A flat circuit through Infesta and the surrounding olive groves. Best at golden hour. Bring water and good shoes — the cobbled lanes can be slippery.
2. PR1 Celorico de Basto (3h, moderate). A signposted route through chestnut woods, vineyards, and granite hamlets. Trail markers are red and yellow. Pack lunch.
3. Senda do Tâmega (variable, easy to moderate). A series of riverside trails along the Tâmega. Lots of swimming spots in summer. We can mark a few of our favourites on a paper map for you.
4. Serra do Marão (full day, moderate to demanding). The wilder mountain to the east. Higher altitudes, granite outcrops, and on clear days, views all the way to the Atlantic. Drive twenty-five minutes to the trailhead; come back via Amarante for dinner.
5. Peneda-Gerês National Park (full day). About an hour north. Portugal's only national park, with waterfalls, wild ponies, and the Roman road from Braga to Astorga. Worth a dedicated day.
