A renovated 1950s stone villa with a private 11-metre pool, three en-suite bedrooms and a fenced garden with a children's playground — 50 minutes from Porto airport. Sleeps six across one king, one queen and one twin room.
Casa do Sol was renovated with families in mind. The three en-suite bedrooms — one king, one queen and one twin — give every generation their own quiet corner, while a fully enclosed garden of granite walls, lawn and Camellia hedges means little ones can roam freely while parents linger over Vinho Verde on the south-facing terrace.
The private 11-metre pool is solar-heated from May through October, set behind a child-secure gate and overlooked from the kitchen window — so morning coffee and breakfast happen with the kids already in the water. A timber playground with a climbing frame, slide and toddler swing sits on its own grassed corner. The garden is fully fenced on all four sides, so toddlers cannot wander into the lane or vineyards.
Indoors, a fully equipped country kitchen handles real cooking for six: induction hob, electric oven, dishwasher, large fridge-freezer, plus a separate utility room with washer and dryer. A baby cot, high-chair, bottle steriliser, baby bath, child-safety stair gate and a small library of children's books in English and Portuguese are all available on request at no extra cost. Bedrooms have black-out curtains and the entire villa has reliable air-conditioning for the warmer months.
Northern Portugal's gentle pace is built for families. Within twenty minutes of the villa you can swim at the Tâmega river beaches (Praia Fluvial de Adaúfe), picnic at the medieval castle of Arnoia, or wander the camellia gardens of Casa do Campo. The market town of Celorico de Basto — five minutes away — has a supermarket, pharmacy, two pediatric-friendly cafés and a Saturday produce market. Guimarães (UNESCO) is a 35-minute drive for an easy half-day with a teacup-train and chocolate-shop circuit; Porto is 50 minutes for the day-out highlights of Ribeira, the funicular and Livraria Lello.
For multi-generational stays the three independent en-suites mean grandparents have their own end of the villa, parents have a private wing, and the twin room is built for kids or older cousins. Many families return for a second week because everyone genuinely rests — the children because the property is theirs to explore, the parents because the house cooks, the wine is good and the WiFi (Starlink, 200–300 Mbps) reliably handles a weekday morning of remote work while everyone else is still in pyjamas.

About your hosts: Casa do Sol is hosted directly by its owners — a Portuguese-German family who restored the property in 2023 and personally welcome every arrival. They live nearby, respond to WhatsApp within the hour, and curate a small but trusted network of local partners: a private chef from the Douro, a sommelier in Celorico de Basto, a yoga teacher from Guimarães and a deep-tissue therapist trained in Porto.
